These memories shape and condition how you think and feel about yourself from that point forward.

They make you feel like something is wrong with you and that there is something missing within, that you feel helpless to remedy. In other words, you are left feeling defective and deficient. What’s more, they make you believe that the only way to feel better is to seek some soothing in the form of approval, acceptance, love, assurance, validation etc. from others around you.

Unfortunately, this kind of grovelling only serves to make you feel worse and actually needier, as others withdraw from you and your toxic neediness. So what is the answer to this mess?
